Dr Wilson Waititu Kiragu

Bethesda Clinic’s founder was the late Dr. Wilson Waititu Kiragu. He was born on January 5th, 1940 in Githumu sub-location in Murang’a district. He attended local primary schools and then Kangaru High School in Embu. He thereafter was admitted to Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda where he got his degree in Medicine. He completed his internship at Kenyatta Hospital and then joined Pumwani Hospital as a Senior House Officer. In 1968 he joined the Kenya Air Force and was commissioned at the rank of Captain. He is credited as being the first African doctor in the Kenya Air Force. He was seconded to the Royal Air Force, United Kingdom where he specialized in Aviation Medicine. In 1970 he left the Air force and worked for two years as the Medical Officer for Health for Nakuru Municipality. Two years later he opened his own private practice in Nakuru. In 1973 he left for Nairobi and joined Dr Elijah Nyanjui in practice. The following year he opened Bethesda Clinic. Over the next 20 years Dr. Kiragu built a thriving medical practice. Dr Kiragu dedicated his life to the service of others especially the sick and infirm. It was with great sadness that we bade him farewell on December 2nd, 1996 when he passed away after suffering a massive stroke. A great husband, father, brother, friend and physician was gone. His memory lives on. The part of his legacy that is Bethesda Clinic continues to serve the people of Kenya. May God rest his soul in eternal peace.
